Famous Psychiatrists

Sigmund Freud (1856-1939)

A contemporary and sometime friend of Carl Gustav Jung, Sigmund Freud was famous for his theory of the mind and human behaviour, particularly in the realm of the unconscious. He saw dreams as providing an insight into the unconscious mind and its own logic. He is course famous for his theories of sexual development and coined the phrase 'Oedipus Complex' for the situation of a son being sexually attracted to his Mother. Electra Complex is the lesser known daughter being attracted to her father.
