Rorschach® Inkblots

rorschach

History

The Swiss psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach developed a test of "perception and apperception" using ten cards in 1921. The above image is typical but is not an actual image. The test was introduced not to demonstrate imagination in the test subject but to see whether the response was influenced by form, perceived movement or colour of the inkblot. Rorschach tests have become a minor icon of the 20th century and occasionally crop up in TV and film.

Exner

A more scientific approach to analysing Rorschach's test was devised by Dr John E. Exner and became popular in the U.S.A.
